Ventimiglia

SEA VIEW VILLA FOR SALE IN VENTIMIGLIA, LIGURIA

The origin of Ventimiglia is uncertain, but certainly dating back to prehistory by the Ligurian Intemeles. In the 2nd century BC it was conquered by the Romans who rebuilt it entirely renaming it Albintimilium.

The city was abandoned by its inhabitants in 644 with the Longobard invasion and a new center was founded on the right bank of the Roia with the name of Vintimilia. In 744 the city became part of the possessions of Charlemagne, in which it remained until the 11th century when it declared itself a free municipality. In 1221 Genoa attacked Ventimiglia, succeeding in subduing the city that in the following centuries passed into the hands of various rulers (Grimaldi, Angioini, Visconti, Savoia, Sforza). In 1505 the Genoese domination was definitively established.

Following the fate of nearby Genoa, Ventimiglia passed into the hands of the Austrians (1747) and the French (1797). In 1815, with the Congress of Vienna, the city became part of the Savoy kingdom and in 1861 was annexed to the newborn Kingdom of Italy of which it is still part.

Among the many monuments that dot the city is worth mentioning the Cathedral of the Assumption, the Church of San Michele, the Porta Canarda, the Loggia del Parlamento, the fortress of the Annunciation and the Villa Hanbury.

Romolini Immobiliare offers a selection of sea view villas and luxury apartments for sale in this city on the Ligurian coast, not far from Genoa.
